By Henry Umoru ABUJA-TRAGEDY struck, yesterday, in Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, following the collapse of a two-storey building under construction at the back of a new generation bank. According to a source, the building came down at 10.20am. The building was alleged to be an extension of the bank. Two buildings under construction had to be demolished before the machines could be moved in to evacuate the debris in order to rescue those trapped under the collapsed building. The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, the FCT Department of Development Control and the Federal Fire Service were on ground to save the situation. As at press time, about 12 persons were still trapped in the debris, four brought out dead, while two, who were seriously injured, had to be rushed to Nyanya General Hospital. Mr Stephen Frahm, Consular Chief of  the U.S Embassy, Wednesday, in Abuja  advised Nigerians wishing to travel to that country to apply  for visas at least a year ahead  of  time. He said this at the  embassy’s monthly briefing  which had consular operations  as the focus.  Frahm said the number of   applicants  outnumber those that can be accommodated daily, noting that  this  contributes to delays.  “ In Nigeria,  there are a greater number of  applicants than we have the ability to process. Late Titilayo, with the man who killed her, her husband   I don't have the full story, but the sad news is all over Facebook. The man pictured above, Arowolo Akolade L, allegedly stabbed his wife to death and cut her into pieces on Friday June 24, 2011. Kolade, was claimed to be a born again Christian, and Titilayo had been married for two years and had a daughter. No one knows exactly what transpired the day he killed his wife, only, family and friends got worried when Titi didn't show up at work or contact anyone for days. The police were called in and when they got to the couple's home, they found Titi's dismembered body and a distraught Kolade there. He has since been arrested.   Friends say Titi had left Kolade sometime last year, after he beat her mercilessly, but went back to him, only to be killed. The Diocese of Amichi, Anglican Communion, has banned new couples from celebrating church wedding before their traditional engagement. Couples in Igboland often fixed both church and traditional weddings on the same day to save cost. But the Bishop of the Diocese in Anambra State, Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor disagreed with the arrangement, and banned the practise. The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has directed that his free education programme for primary and secondary schools in the state begins with immediate effect. The governor, who is expected to swear-in the newly appointed commissioners, acting chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and three others, said those who had paid for the current school year to report to their principals/headmasters for refund of such fees. He also ordered principals, teachers and staff of the state school system to immediately stop collecting fees/levies from students. The governor equally directed that the N150,000 tuition fees paid by students of the state-owned university be reversed to the old fee structure.
