Teenager sets himself ablaze because he fails school exam

 An Algerian teenager set himself on fire in front of horrified high school classmates after failing final exams and not being allowed to repeat his senior year, a report said Tuesday. 80% of 1st class, 2nd class upper applicants failed NNPC exam - GMD

The just concluded recruitment examination conducted by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) recorded abysmal failure as 80 per cent of the applicants, who were mainly first class and second class upper graduates, failed the examination. Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Austen Oniwon, disclosed this on Monaday while declaring open the 9th NNPC National Quiz Competition in Abuja Oniwon, who disclosed that the NNPC was currently carrying out a recruitment exercise, stated that the result of the recruitment examination was not as good as expected as 80 per cent of the so-called first class and second class upper graduates scored less than 20 per cent.

28,069 Results pending as JAMB releases UTME 2011 Results

Barely six days after management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducted the 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Nigeria and six other foreign countries, it has released theresult to the public. The release of the results was made public on Friday, in Abuja by Dibu Ojerinde, Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB at the headquarters of the National Universities Commission (NUC). However the conduct of the examination received criticisms from a cross section of Nigerians for beginning on a bumpy note last Saturday, as a result of the biometric technology introduced into the conduct of the examination for the first time. About 28,069 results are currently pending and to undergo further investigation by the board before their release, in an examination sat for by a total of 1,493,604 candidates.
